American Flat Wound Recoil Spring

Just need the spring? We got you covered.

Recoil springs available for the Ruger American® in 15lb, 18lb, 20lb, and 22lb. These flat wound springs are made for us by ISMI, a leader in the spring market here in the U.S.A, to our specifications. Made on the same machines that make springs for Formula 1 and IndyCar race cars, made exclusively with aerospace specification alloys. Made from Chrome Silicon Spring Wire, the only choice for a longer lasting, more enjoyable shooting experience verses inferior Music Wire springs.

Must be used with our stainless steel guide rods, as the stock rod does not come apart.

The stock full size pistols now ship with 18lb, we recommend the 20lb for the 9mm and 22lb for the 40 models, the 15lb spring is for light hand loads only.

Fits our Stainless Steel Guide Rod for Ruger American Pistols.

As always, proudly made right here in the USA.US Flag

Ruger American 9mm I'm having a hard time pulling back slide, will changing the spring remedy this issue? If so which one?

Reducing the recoil spring for making it easier to rack is not a good option. We have a rack assist coming out shortly that will replace the rear striker cover and add a tab for assist in racking. A cave man grip and rip racking the slide is the best option at this time as going to a lower rate recoil spring may damage the locking block over time with full pressure or high pressure ammo.

Will the springs and guide rod work with the competition model?

Should be the same as the standard size version unless something has changed.

Having light firing issues with my Rugur American Compact 9 mm. Can you recommend a stainless steel striking rod and a heavier striking spring?

No sure what you mean by light firing, if you are having misfires that leave a primer mark but no bang then I would swap ammo. Hard primer bulk ammo is the common issue with bulk primer ammo. Currently we do not offer a higher rate striker spring for more impact on the primer.

RECENTLY PURCHASED RUGER AMERICAN COMPETITION IN 9MM. IM SHOOTING REAL LIGHT HAND LOADS WITH GREAT CONSISTENT ACCURACY. IM USING 115GR RN FMJ GOING 920FPS AVERAGE. "BUT" THE LIGHT LOAD DOESNT HAVE SUFFICIENT PRESSURE TO BLOW BACK THE SLIDE TO CHAMBER INCOMING ROUND CORRECTLY. IVE LOADED HIGHER CHARGE WEIGHTS AND THE FIREARMS CYCLES CORRECTLY BUT MY ACCURACY TAKES THE FALL. NOT SURE WHICH SPRING WEIGHT I SHOULD USE. IM ASSUMING 15-18LBS. YOUR RESPONSE WILL BE APPRECIATED SO I CAN ORDER THE CORRECT ONE.....ILL ORDER 2 COMPLETE ASSY,S IF NEEDED

I would try the 15lb unit for better results with the low pressure rounds like your loading. Going any lower will create battery issues as the striker spring will hold the slide out if you try and reduce the slide rate more
