Add weight to reduce muzzle flip and decrease follow up shot time of your Security 380® Compact Pistol with our Assembled Stainless Steel Guide Rod. Also allows use of different spring rates to tune the pistol to your needs and handloads. These are polished and assembled with Loctite to your needs. Our recoil springs are made from Chrome Silicon Spring Wire, not inferior music wire, which are made to last and provide a more enjoyable shooting experience. Made to our specs from ISMI, a leader in spring manufacturing for Formula One as well as the firearm industry. Select spring rate and retainer finish, and we'll assemble it as requested.
We offer fully assembled units captured like factory in -10%, OEM, +10%, and +20%.
The Stainless Steel Guide Rod Assembly comes with your choice of a Polished Stainless Steel or Blacked Stainless Steel Retainer.

I have a weak left hand due to a medical condition, would the lower rate spring make it even easier to rack the slide? And how will it change the shooting characteristics?
Jul 11, 2025, 08:24Sorry we do not offer a lower rate spring for these. Most of the resistance is in the hammer resistance as you have to clear it to rack the slide. Lower rate recoil springs are for lower pressure ammo and should not be used with standard or high pressure ammo due to possible locking block damage over time.
I can recommend working with a cave man grip and rip racking the slide. Place the support hand fingers on one side the palm opposite, grip tightly and rip back on the slide while driving the shooting hand forward. This will give the most grip and force you can apply to the small surface area to help with racking. -

With the 20+ spring. What grain ammo is recommended? And will is cycle will weaker ammo?
Nov 19, 2024, 09:46Bullet weight isn't the factor, it is the pressure pushing it. If your going to the highest rate on the 380 it should be only for feeding the highest pressure ammo, like +P, as most will not cycle well with the higher rate. 380 is sub sonic normally and the stock rate is best for practice ammo that will be just inside sami specs, higher grade ammo will be in the middle to high for standard pressure and have a higher FPS. You will want the stock rate spring assembly for practice ammo unless you load your own to the higher pressure ranges.

I've been getting light primer strikes with my Security 380. It went back to Ruger and they've returned it. It's better, but I'm still getting quite a few light strikes. When looking at the pistol, there's almost no tension on the spring when the barrel is in it's "normal" position. Will the +10% spring exert more tension when everything is normal? I'm hoping this will press the round further back towards the breech face.
Jun 18, 2024, 09:03The higher rate spring will have more holding force at battery yes. I've never seen on that was weak at battery in these though as they are tilting action not blow back. You're having misfires with off the shelf factory loaded ammo across multiple brands?

Dec 6, 2023, 14:07The highest rate we offer would be your best option for the very high pressure load range of that sort of ammo. I would reach out to Ruger to confirm the chamber will handle the extreme range of pressure some of the higher end custom defensive ammo runs at.

Once I found this I ordered in the OEM weight as my goal was to replace the stock with a proper metal guide-rod. While I feel the spring may be a hint heavier than OEM, the action itself feels very smooth and cannot wait until I take it to the range!
