Rack Assist Back Plate for Taurus Spectrum Pistols

I bought a Spectrum a couple of years ago. After a couple of boxes of rounds through it with acceptable accuracy and no failures I stuck it in the safe and forgot it for two problems:
- when the barrel was removed for cleaning the recoil spring could not be replaced without kinking
- my 75 year-old arthritic hands just could not work the slide

I recently bought and installed the Galloway Precision Guide Rod and Spring and the Rack Assist Back Plate. What a difference! The Guide Rod practically falls into place. And the Rack Assist makes slide racking extremely easy. I am now willing to do the serious testing to put the Spectrum in my EDC rotation It could become my go to choice for pocket holster carry.

This is definitely a must have for the Taurus spectrum. Makes racking the slide so much easier especially if your hands are slightly wet or oily. The design is very slim, so it doesn’t get hung up coming out of a holster or pocket. Definitely something you should have on your Spectrum.

I know nothing's as easy as it's made to appear. Looking before I made the purchase saved me a headache. I compared my finger to the slot where the slide end-cap fit and there was no way I'd be able to fit my fat finger in there to hold the firing pin spring retainer in place. I made a little Popsicle Stick-like tool to do the deed. Well, even that wasn't enough. This Rack Assist is made to very close tolerances; I couldn't get the thing to slide into the slide. HA HA Thinking it wasn't going to fit I let the firing pin spring retainer out to see if I could put the rack assist in place. It did eventually fit and took a little gun oil and several attempts to get it deep enough in the slot to allow the slide to function freely. It also took some effort to align the retaining pin correctly; it's not round, it has a flat side that must fit its hole exactly. My little tool wouldn't allow me to turn the retainer with it in place. I eventually put the slide in a vice to free-up a finger to accomplish that. From then on out it was smooth sailing. As for the function without it, I could barely rack the first round and my daughter who's the Spectrums' owner Couldn't at all. I would think the concave inserts would help But? I did show her how to hold the slide against an edge to push it back but that didn't fly either. Fortunately this rack assist and a little practice has helped her become proficient. She likes the addition much. And I don't have to go to the range just for that first round.
