EMP 4" Flat Wound Recoil Spring
We've developed an increased rate spring for the Springfield Armory EMP 4 in 9mm, and .40 S&W. Stock rate of these recoil springs are 15lbs from the factory, which we will be selling as well to replace your worn out stock rate spring. The 18lb recoil spring really tames the .40S&W and the higher grain 9mm ammunitions on the market. A definite must have if you are a Springfield Armory EMP 4 owner.
These flat wound springs are made for us by ISMI, a leader in the spring market here in the U.S.A, to our specifications. Made on the same machines that make springs for Formula 1 and IndyCar race cars, made exclusively with aerospace specification alloys. Made from Chrome Silicon Spring Wire, the only choice for a longer lasting, more enjoyable shooting experience verses inferior Music Wire springs.
For use with your factory guide rod.
Fits Springfield Armory EMP 4" Pistols. Will NOT fit 3" versions.
As always, proudly made right here in the USA.

I have an EMP4 9mm champion. Issue is with slide NOT locking on empty magazine about 95-100% of the time PRIMARILY when shooting 115Gr FMJ ammo (Fiocchi; Blazer; Magtech; PMC). Only occasionally will it lock using the 115Gr ammo. When using 124Gr; 125Gr; 147Gr it is never an issue. Also I have 6 different Springfield EMP4 magazines.
It has been suggested that I need a "lighter" recoil spring.
Your professional advice sorely needed. Thank you, Les WinnersJun 25, 2021, 16:12Well bullet weight isn't really a factor, I know folks like to say it is the important factor but it is all about pressure. Bulk practice ammo is generally on the low side of the pressure range. 115 is almost always below or at the cut off. The higher grain bullets tend to be in front of higher pressure charges to get them up to higher speed due to the weight. Your issue sounds exactly like that in that the lower weights/lower pressure loads don't fully cycle but the higher weights/pressures do. I would agree a lower rate recoil spring set will help cycle but be aware in the hammer fired SA the hammer takes up more of the recoil energy than the recoil spring assembly due to the fact the hammer has to be cocked overcoming the hammer spring that is very high rate.

Jan 4, 2021, 09:44Sorry we do not currently offer one that low. If we get enough interest I'll work with the spring maker to see what we can supply.

Any chance of getting an 11# or 13# spring for the 9mm EMP4?
May 1, 2020, 09:58I'm sure I can get Ross at ISMI to cook something up if we get enough demand.
